It may be your child's first Christmas and you want lots of great pictures of the gifts on Christmas morning, but the truth is your baby doesn't care. Michele Zipp over at The Stir wrote a great article about why your baby doesn't need anything, except love, this holiday season. "Baby will grow out of or become disinterested in whatever it is you will get her in about five days...Plus, baby isn't going to get mad at you for scrimping on her this Christmas -- she'll never remember." It's about time someone said it!

As a parent, of course we want our kids to have a few gifts, but it's not necessary. Your baby is going to love you, no matter what. They'd rather have you sit on the floor and roll a ball to them than all the gifts in the world. We were given this advice when our boys were little and only bought a couple of gifts for each of them. We used the extra money to visit a kid's museum and buy a new bed for our son. Even today, we limit the number of gifts that we buy for our kids.

I am daring to take this a step further and say your kids don't more than two or three gifts each this holiday season. Kids are much more aware than we give them credit for. Instead of spending too much money on toys that are ultimately going to be forgotten, how about spending time with your kids? Turn off the TV, shut off the phone and focus on your kids. Play a game, color, bake, visit an elderly person and cheer them up this holiday season. There are lots of things you can do that don't cost money.

What do you think: are you buying your baby gifts this year? Do you think babies are just fine without receiving gifts?
