IKEA has recalled a batch of frozen meatballs after traces of horse meat were found in them. The meatballs were sent to about one dozen different countries around Europe. The labels said they were made of beef and pork. "As soon as we received information from the Czech authorities, we stopped sales of that particular production batch," IKEA spokeswoman Ylva Magnusson told The Wall Street Journal.
A statement on the IKEA website says that shipments to the US and other countries were not affected. They also stated that their tests showed no horsemeat, so they are looking into the problem. IKEA is estimated to serve 150 million meatballs per year, according to a company website.
Do you believe what is on the labels for your food? Do you think the IKEAs in the United States could have meatballs with horse meat in them?
