I love it when couples find cute ways to announce that they are pregnant and, if they are finding out ahead of time, how they share the gender with friends and family. With social media, there seems to be a whole need breed of creative ways of sharing the news.

Personally, I blurted out it out to everyone I knew as soon as I found out that I was pregnant with all 3 of mine (I can't keep good news to myself). I did the same when I found out the gender, except for our 3rd. I surprised my husband at his birthday dinner by giving him a gift of a precious blue baby outfit signed with the name we had picked out for a boy. I'm a creative person but I'm not patient when it comes to news of that magnitude.

I have to admit that I love seeing all of these wonderful ways that couples share this special information. Here are a few cute ideas... and tell us how you broke the news.

To share that you are expecting:

  • Serve a meal to your spouse or family of all ‘baby' type of food. Baby baby ribs, baby carrots, little weenies, salad with baby corn, etc. and see if they guess the trend.
  • Buy a cute shirt that says something along the lines of ‘Baby on Board', ‘Baby Under Construction', or have a sibling or dog wear a shirt that says ‘Big Brother/Sister' and see how long it takes for people to notice.
  • Give a gift that says it all... a bib that say, baby booties, a onesie, etc.
  • Bring out a cake that has the news written on it. "Baby______ Due _______" or "We're Pregnant".
  • Change your Facebook profile picture to a shot of the positive pregnancy test.
  • Videotape you breaking the news to your partner and then email it to your family
  • Sneak a picture of the positive pregnancy test or ultrasound picture into your partner's or family member's book, checkbook, wallet, etc.

To share the gender:

  • Have the ultrasound tech put the news in an envelope and open it at a family dinner party or dinner with just you and your husband.
  • Give the envelope to the waiter and ask them to bring out desert with either pink or blue icing.
  • Take pictures of you and your spouse holding pink or blue balloons and share.
  • Give a gender specific gift to the person you are telling... a little football ball, a doll in a pink dress, etc.
  • Add a pink bow or a blue hat to the ultrasound picture and share on Facebook or via email.
  • You can order custom M&Ms that break the news.
  • Share a picture of a pink or blue ribbon wrapped around your belly.
  • You can buy small blank jigsaw puzzles at craft stores and write the news on the puzzle, scramble it up and give it to family members.

Or you can make a YouTube video like this adorable couple did...
