I was shocked when I read a recent article about blondes earning more than brunettes. As a brunette I always sensed some male preference to blondes but hadn't given it thought in terms of the workplace.
In a 2010 study of 20,000 Caucasian women living the United States, researchers at Queensland University of Technology in Australia found that blond haired females consistently outearn brunettes. Researchers compare the "blond wage premium" to the pay hike you'd receive from an extra year of education, and speculates that the increase, which occurs regardless of career field, may be due to the cultural link between blond women and beauty.
Employees who are perceived to be attractive are "more confident, have greater communication skills, and are wrongly considered by employers to be more productive.
So what do you think? Do blondes get better treatment? Are you blonde? Post your comments below.
