Video from a Mississippi day care showed a 9-year-old boy hitting, kicking, and biting other children, as young as 11-months-old. The video is disturbing and shows the boy waiting until workers aren't looking to kick another child in the back. In one part of the video, he kicks a little girl on the ground and then picks her up and appears to comfort her.
Because he is under 12, he will not face criminal charges, but could have some sort of rehabilitation. The Vicksburg police did arrest one of the day care workers and have charged her with contributing to the neglect of a minor. Workers and parents told the media the boy has a history of beating other kids. The children are supposed to be separated by age, but it was during pick-up time that this incident occurred.
One of the young victims' father said his daughter, who is only 1-year-old, had bite marks on her neck and cheek and his young son had bruises on his head. "They were just crying. They can't talk, so I can't get it from them. They couldn't tell me (what had happened). They was just crying," Williams said. He was told by workers they didn't know what happened. Williams did slap a boy he thought was responsible, but it wasn't the correct one. He said he shouldn't have slapped a child and is facing charges in court for misdemeanor simple assault and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Every time we hear a story about something like this happening in a day care, it reminds us to be aware of where we are leaving our children. How do you make sure your child's day care is a safe place?
