The weather has been beautiful here in the 719. My boys and I have been outside, enjoying ourselves. Here are some fun outdoor activities to do in your driveway or backyard.

  1. Create art with sidewalk chalk. You can color your driveway, color trees, design a city landscape on the driveway, make pretend roads to let them ride bikes & tricycles on.
  2. Fly a kite. The wind we're having is perfect kite-flying weather.
  3. Homemade binoculars out of toilet paper rolls. Use tape or glue to put them together & a string to hang them with.
  4. Make a notebook. Decorate with stickers, crayons, glitter & other fun stuff.
  5. Go on a hike! There are lots of great kid friendly trails and outdoor spaces to walk. Take your notebooks and write about what you see.
  6. Write a book. Kids love to use their imaginations. You can make up characters and write about their adventures.
  7. Plant some seeds. It is easy to start a few seedlings that can grow inside. You can use small pots or even use an egg carton to start them and move them to larger planters. When spring rolls around you can use them to start your garden.
  8. Have a scavenger hunt. Make a list of things you might see in your neighborhood: dogs, cats, squirrels, birds, leaves, trees, a red car, a bicycle. Take a walk around the neighborhood and see what you find.
  9. Visit a local tourist attraction. Sometimes we like to head to Cave of the Winds or Garden of the Gods and play tourist in our own city. My kids love the Pioneer Museum because they get a clipboard and scavenger hunt sheet specifically for kids when we go in and they like to find all of the pictures and earn a prize.
  10. Have a picnic. You can let them kids help pack a picnic or even just a few snacks, bring a blanket and eat outside.
What are some of your ideas for outdoor fun with kids?
